Learning to be astonished

From "Messenger" by Mary Oliver:

"Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?
Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,
which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be
     astonished...."

  1. Enhorabuena querida amiga! Lola

  2. Hey Katharine,
Its been a while since I've visited your blog... thank you for keeping it up. I love Mary Oliver, and this bit of poem is particularly profound, isn't it? A good thing to be reminded of! Being astonished... like by pelicans! I love that painting of your's... I would love to take you sometime to Elkhorn Slough (near Monterey... you''d have to spend the night at my house)... kayaking up Elkhorn is amazing, get to see tons of pelicans (those prehistoric creatures!) and otters, and sea lions... truly astonishing!
