Michele's sister's barn

Michele was the secretary at the middle school where I teach. She retired, and now she looks 10 years younger! Anyway, her sister Susan lives near Olivet Road, a beautiful area. Susan said that Lola and I could paint there this summer, so one day last month we went and painted this barn in her backyard. That day the colors of summer were perfect! This picture makes the colors look extra saturated; they are not so bright in the painting.

Slusser Road Barn

I've been meaning for some time to paint this barn. Among Sonoma County's many beautiful barns, this one has to be one of the most-photographed and most-painted. It is looking more rickety in real life than in my painting; I was beginning to worry it may fall down before I painted it!

Nebraska Barn

This was painted from a photo of a barn in Nebraska. I liked the contrast of the bright, white barn against the sky and grass.

Barn

Originally, behind the barn there were mountains. I couldn't get the scale (or the color) of the mountains right, so I painted over them. Still deciding what to do with the sky.
