"River Watch" finished & sold!

I loved painting this photo of the Monte Rio bridge. The reference photo was taken by my dear friend, Steve Pedersen. It sold to another dear friend from San Francisco.

Sunday Morning Painting

Went out painting last Sunday morning on Monte Rio beach. My friend Steve joined me with his guitar. A magical morning!

Painting with my niece

My niece Sophia just started college at USF. She came and spent a weekend with my wife and me. Sophia's been an artist all her life. She & I went out painting along the Russian River one morning.

River Aflame

This was painted in the fall. I sat on the beach in Monte Rio. Painting has made me appreciate the colors of all the seasons more fully, as I pay attention more.

Monte Rio Beach

On the morning of Lola's last day here, we went to Monte Rio's beach for one last painting excursion. It was beautiful, as always. She headed back to Spain later that day.

Painting with Lola 1

My dear friend and fellow artist Lola arrived from Madrid on Saturday, November 23rd, in the evening. The next day we got up early and headed to Monte Rio to paint by the river. It was a gorgeous morning; there was a mist on the river, and ducks flew by and landed in the water as we painted.

Painting Along the River

Yesterday & the day before, I took my pochade box and set up on the Monte Rio beach. Worked on painting a scene of a house across the river. It has been a challenging painting for me due to the variety of foliage and the reflections in the river. I'm still working on it and it has a ways to go, and may not end up being anything worth saving. No matter; it was wonderful to be beside the river in the sunshine, watching the ducks splash around!

Monte Rio Cottage

Today I went to the neighboring town of Monte Rio, thinking I would sit next to the river and paint the bridge. However, there was no good view in which the sun wasn't shining directly in my eyes. I walked around a bit and saw this cute cottage. I've been trying to paint more buildings lately; I'd like to learn to do townscapes. This little painting still needs some work, but I think it is off to a good start!

River view-Monte Rio

Went to sit on the bank of the Russian River in Monte Rio one day this past week. My dog was with me, so I couldn't stay too long as it was hot for him. Quickly did this sketch of the river bank across from where I sat. Probably needs more work. This summer I want to paint the river a lot; it is a challenge for me because most of it is just varying shades of green, and reflections off the water.
