Lola's Terrace

My friend Lola lives in an attic apartment in Madrid. These types of apartments rarely go up for sale because they generally have spectacular terraces. The view from Lola's terrace is stunning at all times of day and in all weather conditions. It was so fun to paint there!

Painting on Lola's Birthday

My dear friend Lola turned 50 on June 19th, a very hot and beautiful day in Madrid. We celebrated all day. First, we painted in the Royal Botanical Garden with Lola's good friend Miriam. Then we had a delicious vegan lunch, unusual in Spain (pictured is the watermelon gazpacho). Afterwards, we went for coffee and then escaped the heat by painting in Retiro Park until the evening hours brought cooler weather.

In & Around Madrid

In between plates of awesome tapas, my friend Lola and I did manage to do lots of painting! Here are some pics from Madrid, Toledo and Segovia.

Museo Sorolla

One of my favorite places on Earth is the Museo Sorolla in Madrid, located in the former home & studio of Joaquin Sorolla. When I lived in Madrid, I spent many hours there. On my first day in Madrid this past June, I went with my friends Lola and Miriam to admire the amazing art and the peaceful gardens. After wandering around the house & studio, we spent time painting in the garden.

Gone Painting!

Leaving my Guerneville studio for two weeks to go paint in Spain with my good friend Lola. Hope to paint lots of plein air works in and around Madrid....in between eating tapas, of course!

Sonoma County Pride

The Kuhr-Norris Studio & Gallery overlooks Main Street so it was a fantastic spot to watch Sonoma County's Gay Pride Parade!

Hanging out at the studio

Now that the school year has ended, I have more time to spend in the studio

Summer River

Lots of new works at the gallery!

Summer Colors

Summer Colors are filling the Kuhr-Norris Studio & Gallery these days!

"Freestone Beauty"

Went out plein air painting awhile ago to the coast with friends. The beach got too windy, so we packed up and headed inland. Wound up in Freestone where the sunlight was shining brightly on the barn across from the Wildflower Bakery. This image over-saturates the colors in the painting, but you get the idea. The painting sold yesterday!

"Spring Greens"

Spring is exuberant in Sonoma County, and bright green colors are everywhere. This painting is a celebration of the season.

Kuhr & Norris

Suzy Kuhr, black & white photographer extraordinaire, is a friend I both respect and admire. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to share a gallery with her!

1st Friday Art Walk

The March 1st Friday Art Walk was hopping at the Kuhr-Norris Studio & Gallery! Sister Yoda paid us a visit, and both Suzy Kuhr and I sold work!

Paintings to wine labels

My wife is a "garagista"---she built a winery in our garage and makes incredible wines. Our winery (run with the dedicated help of a group of dear friends) is called TKO. Here are 2 of her latest wines...which feature my paintings on the labels!

Kuhr-Norris Studio & Gallery

My side of the Kuhr-Norris Studio & Gallery---cleaned up and ready for 1st Friday Art Walk!

Tomales Bay

Watercolor sketch

This was a quick sketch done at the mouth of the Russian River on a beautiful day.

Spring in the river valley

It is spring time here in Sonoma County, and painting by the river is gorgeous!
